THE DIVINE RIDE V
Saturday August 8, 2015
These beautiful children in the poster to the right attend Thomasville City Schools. They come from a variety of backgrounds and home situations. Some return home each evening to the same comfortable bed; others do not. Many families are coping with poor conditions brought forth by a struggling economy. We do not live in a vacuum, and what affects one child, impacts us all. In these faces are infinite possibilities. We, at Memorial United Methodist Church, invite you to make an immediate difference in the lives of our displaced children. When you purchase a poster for $10, all proceeds go to a specific fund at TCS to help meet the basic needs of these students and their families. Through “Project Divine Interruption”, we are taking a stand that poverty will not have the last word!
Please make all checks to MUMC with “Project Divine Interruption” notated in the memo portion of the check. Send to the Church office at 101 Randolph St Thomasville, NC 27360.
For more information, please visit our church website at www.mumctville.org under the “News” tab or call the church office at 472-7718. You may also contact Tracy Brinkley at firstname.lastname@example.org. Love wins. Always!
To make an immediate difference in the lives of our displaced children of Thomasville, NC.
From the National Center on Family Homelessness: There are more than 1.5 million homeless (displaced) children in the United States, ie, 1 in 50 children. In NC, 1 in 22 children does not know where he/she will get the next meal. In Thomasville City Schools, 1 out of every 25 students is homeless (displaced)! We can make a difference...today!
Jesus called the children to him and said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.' Luke 18:16
“STARFISH STORY” (Author: Anonymous)
One day, an old man was walking along the beach in the early morning and noticed what appeared to be thousands of starfish washed up on the shore. Up ahead in the distance, he spotted a boy who appeared to be gathering up the starfish and tossing them, one by one, back into the ocean.
Overwhelmed by the sheer multitude of the suffering creatures, the old man just stood and watched as the boy picked up another starfish, and yet another, releasing them in the healing safety of the cool green water. Finally, he approached the boy and asked him why he spent so much energy doing what seemed to be a waste of time.
The boy replied, “If these starfish are left out here like this, they will bake in the sun, and by this afternoon all of them will be dead.”
The old man gazed out as far as he could see and responded, “But, there must be hundreds of miles of beach and thousands of starfish. You can’t possibly rescue all of them. What difference is throwing a few back going to make, anyway?”
The boy then held up the starfish he had in his hand and threw it to safety in the waves and replied,
“It made a difference to that one!”
